In yet another major seizure of Goa liquor, the Belagavi excise officials have seized Goa liquor worth Rs 5 lakh which was being illegally transported in a cargo rickshaw and two persons have been arrested in this connection.
Additional Commissioner Y Manjunath said the incident took place at the Bachi checkpoint near the Maharashtra-Karnataka border when the excise team searched a cargo rickshaw.
As many as 760 bottles of nine types of liquor which were being illegally transported from Goa were seized as the consignment was without a permit.
Two persons Nagesh Narayan Patil (34) of Shivaji Galli Bahadurwadi, and Sahil Laxman Patil (19) of Brahmalinga Galli have been arrested in this case. The accused who were transporting liquor were produced before the court and sent to jail.
Deputy Commissioner Vanjakshi M, Excise Superintendent Vijaykumar Hiremath, Deputy Superintendent Ravi Y Murgod and a team led by Inspector Manjunath Galgali, Sunil Patil, Sepoy Mahadev Katagenavar and others carried out the raid under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Excise Dr Y Manjunath and Assistant Commissioner Feroze Khan Killedar.
Earlier on October 17, Belagavi excise officials had seized Goa liquor worth Rs 10 lakh after raiding a lorry on the Pune-Bengaluru NH748 highway. The truck driver has been arrested in this connection.
