The Goa police is bracing up to maintain law and order in Cuncolim on Monday following objections raised by Bajrang Dal to the Julus procession arranged by the Muslim community.
In another development, the Cuncolim Market Association has extended support to the Julus procession taken out by the Muslim community every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.
South District Police Chief, SP Sunita Sawant along with Sub-divisional Police officer, Margao DySP Santosh Desai visited the Cuncolim police station on Sunday to take stock of the situation in view of the objection raised by the Bajrang Dal to the Julus procession in the Cuncolim market area.
DySP Santosh Desai informed that the Cuncolim Julus procession has the necessary permission from the authorities, adding that the police has been mobilised to tackle any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the Cuncolim Traders Association led by President Yatin Talaulikar has extended support to the Julus procession scheduled in the market area on Monday.
Talaulikar said the traders body is supporting the Julus procession taken out on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, saying the occasion should be celebrated in a big way.
Association secretary irineu Coutinho said the Muslim community has been taken out the Julus procession since his childhood days, adding that the Association has extended full support to the procession.
“We are working for religious harmony. Our’s is a a non-political, non-religious Association. We have decided to support the Julus procession scheduled on Monday”, he said.
