In a major raid by Khanapur excise police, Goa-made liquor worth over Rs 27 lakh was seized at the Karnataka excise check post at Kankumbi.
Acting on a tip-off, excise personnel intercepted a truck heading towards Karnataka. After an inspection, it was found that the liquor was kept inside the concealed compartments beneath the truck. A JCB machine was used to break open the concealed compartment and a huge stock of Goa liquor was found.
Goa-made liquor bottles worth Rs 27.52 lakh were recovered from the rear compartment beneath the truck that was welded. The cleaner and the driver of the truck have been arrested while the truck too has been seized. The raids were carried out under the direction of senior excise officials Ferozakhan Killedar, Vanajaxi M Manjunath Galgali the team of excise personnel.
