The 108th anniversary day of Gomant Vidya Niketan will be celebrated on the occasion of Gudhi Padwa on November 29 at 5.30 pm at the Fomento Amphitheatre. The event which will be organized maintaining covid-19 norms of physical distancing, will have former finance secretary in the Goa government, Daulat Hawaldar as chief guest.
The Marathi Vikas Saunstha of the Maharashtra government has donated a fund of Rs 2 lakh to Gomant Vidya Niketan and with this amount the organization has decided to reprint and republish four rare and unavailable books of Goan writers. A book by writer Balakrishna Vaman Sawardekar “ Ajacha v Kalacha Gomantak - published originally by The Goa Hindu Association, Mumbai is one of these books. The other books are ‘Dyanadevi “ Shabdakosh by Ramchandra Vishnu Madgaonkar and Ravindra Darshan by V S Sukhatankar. The books will be available at a concessional rate at Gomant Vidya Niketan.
The four awardees who will be felicitated this year are Amrut Singh who will be awarded Keshav Anant Nayak Smruti Samaj Sevak Puraskar 2019, Glenda Fernandes who will receive Pirubai Dalal Smruti Swayamsiddha Puraskar 2019, Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria) who will be given Kashinath Damoday Nayak Samajik Krutadnyata Puraskar 2019 and poet Dasu Vaidya will be getting Kavivarya Damodar Acchut Kare Smruti Gomantadevi Puraskar 2019. The event will also witness awards given to budding writers in Goa “ Dnyanada Prabhudesai (children’s literature), Damodar Pundalik Kanekar (play), Shrikrishna Damodar Kelkar (biography), Dipa Miringkar (poetry) and Asavari Kulkarni (poetry). These awards will be given to them at the hands of Dasu Vaidya who will also address the audience.
