In partial relief, the government has extended the tenure of the Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB) and the Child Welfare Committees (CWC) for North and South Goa, allowing them to resume functioning immediately after the order was issued on Friday.
This extension comes after a report published by 'The Goan' regarding the non-functional status of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the JJB, and CWC.
Sources revealed to 'The Goan' that the Department of Women and Child Development has extended their tenure by three months. With this, several pending tasks resumed, the first being the handover process of a runaway child to an outstation police-NGO team, which had been camping in Goa since Sunday.
“The police team from the teen’s native State was finally able to establish contact with the South Goa CWC to begin the process of handing over the child. He will then be produced before the CWC in the district where he belongs,” sources said.
'The Goan' had reported that an outstation police team, which had arrived in Goa to take custody of the runaway child, was unable to proceed without the intervention of the defunct CWC as the extended tenure ended on September 21.
Meanwhile, the JJB is also set to resume case hearings on its scheduled days on Tuesday and Thursday while administrative work began immediately after the order on Friday.
