Govt launches solar power scheme for households

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday launched a new scheme for installing solar power generating units meant for households which consume less than 400 units per month by which their own consumption will be provided for.

Sawant launched the scheme at the Goa legislative complex early Friday morning saying it will lead to "zero bill" for those who opt for it.

Under this new 'Goem Vinamulya Vij Yevjan' scheme, the State government will provide the finance to install the roof-top solar units of up to 5kW, and only those power consumers whose power consumption is 400 units or less per month over a one-year period are eligible. It is a joint State and Centrally funded scheme and linked to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

At the event, Sawant also disbursed the subsidy amount to 61 consumers who installed rooftop solar units.
