Govt must take speedy steps to control Covid spread: Cong

MAPUSA

North Goa Congress President Vijay Bhike on Wednesday demanded that the Goa government take cognizance of the growing Covid-19 numbers and impose some effective restrictions to control the spread.
Bhike said if at all the government decides to impose a night curfew in the State from 11 pm to 6 am then it will have no effect on the spread of the virus.
He also slammed the government for forcing the children in the age group of 15-18 years to take the vaccines.
“How can they force the children to take the vaccines when the third wave has already begun? Parents of students taking the vaccine are made to sign a consent form. We know that these vaccines have had adverse effects on many so how can we be sure it will not harm our children?” he queried.
“Instead of cracking down on mass gatherings, crowded party hotspots, clubs and casinos, the government is trying to paint everyone with the same brush. The government has failed to prevent the third wave,” he added.
The NGDCC chief was addressing the media along with former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes, Calangute Block President, Benedict D’Souza and others.
Bhike called on the people to take precautions and to venture out only if necessary and to avoid large gatherings lest they inadvertently expose themselves to the virus.
Vice President of GPCC and ex-MLA of Calangute, Agnelo Fernandes demanded the removal of Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo to ensure a free and fair investigation into the attack on the popular Souza Lobo restaurant.
“If you want a fair and impartial investigation in the case, then the Calangute MLA who is a minister should resign or he should be sacked,” Fernandes said.
He also demanded a fair and transparent inquiry into the Siddhi Naik murder case.
