Govt pursues funding of Rs 943 cr for 70 projects

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that Goa has already been granted Rs 227 crore under several centrally sponsored schemes and is pursuing additional funding amounting to Rs 943 crore for 70 more projects.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting to assess the progress of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) submitted by different departments, Sawant said the State has sent 42 DPRs to the Union Government.

“We are actively pursuing additional funding of Rs 943 crore. Around 70 projects under various government heads have their DPRs ready of which 42 are submitted to the Central government for approval. We are optimistic about the approval of these DPRs so that the funds are available soon,” he said.

The CM was joined by the Chief Secretary, Secretaries of respective departments and Head of Departments at the review meeting. The government had earlier this year appointed Darashaw and Company as the consultant to prepare DPRs for Central funds.

Given Goa’s smaller size, the CM acknowledged that not all the benefits under the centrally sponsored schemes are extended to the State.

Various other issues including relevant matters for the upcoming monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly were also discussed during the meeting held at Secretariat, Porvorim.
