Two persons died in separate fatal accidents on Sunday night amidst the State experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds. The first accident, which occurred in Chimbel, was a hit-and-run incident, whereas the second fatality was due to a self-accident on the new Mandovi Bridge.
Details shared by the Office of the Public Relations Officer of Goa Police state that two accidents led to fatalities. In the first incident, an unidentified driver of an Ashok Leyland Rickshaw with registration number GA-07-T-0855 drove recklessly and negligently, colliding with a two-wheeler rider near a bar in Chimbel.
“The driver failed to exercise proper care and caution, thereby endangering human life. While traveling from Chimbel to Ribandar, the driver collided with an Activa scooter near Kinara Bar and fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.” The driver, later identified as Venkatesh Jadhav, aged 29, was apprehended and arrested.
He is charged under sections 304-A (causing death by a rash and negligent act), 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code, and section 134 (a) (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The rider, Ajay Kamble, aged 30 and a resident of Indira Nagar Chimbel, succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to GMC Bambolim for medical treatment.
In a separate accident that occurred within 25 minutes, a two-wheeler skidded on the New Mandovi Bridge resulting in both the rider and the pillion falling off the vehicle. The rider, Kamal Singh, 42, along with pillion Brij Mohan Yadav, 35, was proceeding on his Honda Eterno scooter GA-03-E-5290 from Mapusa to Ribandar when the accident occurred.
Yadav, residing in Ribandar and a native of Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. The rider has been made an accused and is yet to be arrested for offense registered under sections 279,337 (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) and, 304-A IPC.
In yet another accident, at Porvorim, a collision between multiple vehicles occurred on the same night, resulting in damage to several vehicles and traffic chaos.
