Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the government had a vision to fast track various water supply projects in the State, even as the Porvorim water treatment plant was expected to be commissioned by April 30.
He also said the entire work of the Goa water supply and sewerage project which is being taken up in collaboration and with the assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at a cost of Rs 1,404.57 crore is targeted for completion by October.
“Water treatment plants totalling 150 MLD at Chandel, Selaulim, Canacona, Tuem and other works across the State costing Rs 421 crore “ Rs 136 crore for urban water supply and Rs 285 crores for rural water supply “ will be taken up for execution in the ensuing year,” Sawant announced during the presentation of the budget.
Similarly, water treatment plants totalling 34 MLD will come up at Ganjem and Porvorim at a cost of Rs 135 crore. The Porvorim water treatment plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of next month.
The CM said with the completion of these water supply schemes, the vision of the government to provide 100 LPCD for rural areas and 150 LPCD for urban areas will be achieved.
The chief minister further said the government has prepared a Master Plan for sewerage facilities for the entire State amounting to Rs 4,735 crore.
“Sewerage Corporation has taken up works amounting to Rs 1,589 crore at Margao, Navelim, Colva, Ponda, Porvorim and Taleigao to enhance the sewerage coverage up to 28 per cent,” he said.
The government has also earmarked an amount of Rs 380 crore for sewerage schemes and proposed to formulate a “House Sewer Connection” scheme for households to avail sewer connection at a reduced cost.
