The accident-prone Peddem junction along the NH-66 may get some relief with the State government deciding to construct rumblers on internal roads leading to the highway.But the junction has become very dangerous as many people walk over the national highway to cross over to the Peddem sports complex and the North Goa District Hospital.
The District Magistrate of North Goa Ajit Roy (IAS) on the recommendation of the DySP (Traffic) has notified placing of thick rumbler strips on the internal roads leading to the NH-66.
Accordingly, 15 to 20 rumbler strips will be constructed on road proceeding towards Vrundavan Hospital, Mapusa almost 5 metres from the Peddem junction.
Similarly, rumbler strips will be constructed on the road proceeding towards the sports complex, Mapusa around 10 metres from the Peddem junction.
The rumblers will also be constructed on service roads proceeding from Karaswada junction, Peddem, Mapusa at a distance of 5 metres from the Peddem junction.
The district magistrate has also authorized the erection of cautionary signboards near the rumbler strips in order to regulate motor vehicular traffic.
The Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council has been directed to take the necessary steps to construct the rumbler strips and the cautionary signboards within a month.
