The State government will open adopting of government primary schools under the central government’s Vidyanjali initiative wherein NGOs, societies, retired teachers and religious organisations can pitch in to tone up the infrastructure and provide better amenities.
The government has also assured 150 primary teachers will be appointed by November, to ensure there is no shortage of teachers.
Speaking at the Shiksha Pe Charcha programme on Saturday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said interested organisations as well as individuals can register through the Vidyanjali Portal for adopting government primary schools.
He, however, made it abundantly clear that the overall control of the primary schools will be in the hands of the government.
Elaborating on the Vidyanjali scheme, the Chief Minister said the government will retain full control over the primary schools, but the NGOs, professionals, retired teachers, government officers, besides the public and private sector can adopt the schools to tone up the infrastructure and provide better amenities.
He added: “The online forms for registration under the Vidyanjali scheme will be available within the next few days. It has been decided to implement this scheme for upgradation of primary schools.
On shortage of teachers, Sawant said 150 more teachers -- including teachers who will be imparted training in English -- will be appointed by November. After the new appointments, we will be able to give 2 teachers per school, he added.
The government has also decided to name the government primary schools after prominent freedom fighters.
The Chief Minister said these schools will be named after freedom fighters in recognition of their sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
“After names are suggested, members of PTA, School Management Committees, teachers and locals will take a call. Let people suggest the names to the school headmaster”, he said, adding the names of freedom fighters will installed at the schools before December 19.
