Chief Minister Pramod Sawant late Tuesday evening announced that an inquiry has been initiated by the Chief Secretary into the illegal demolition of the Agarwadekar family's house in Assagao even as he assured that the government would undertake repairs of the demolished part of the house and that the costs incurred would be recovered from those responsible for the demolition.
He indicated that police involvement in the case would also be scrutinised, with potential actions against any officers found culpable.
"Justice will be brought to the Agarwadekar family... 100% justice will be done. You will see the results in the next two days", he affirmed.The Chief Minister visited the site of the demolition late Tuesday evening, inspecting the damage to Agarwadekar's house. He was accompanied by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and local Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo.
Sawant announced that the Public Works Department would commence repair work within the next two days.
He reiterated that all individuals involved in the demolition would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Chief Secretary has been tasked with investigating the incident, including any police involvement, and will submit a report on the findings.
"Action will be taken against all those involved once the report is submitted. If the police are involved in this, strict action will be taken against them. If there are officers involved, action will also be taken against them," Sawant assured.
The Chief Minister warned of potential suspensions, emphasising that the government would not tolerate any disruption to law and order in the State.
"Such behaviour will not be tolerated in the future. The manner in which the house was dealt with was very wrong," he said.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and heightened calls for accountability, with the government's response closely watched by the public and media.
