Top leaders P Chidambaram and Dinesh Gundu Rao, who were both in-charge of the Congress' Goa election campaign, are slated to attend the induction ceremony of the new Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar and his team on Monday.
Patkar, GPCC working president and MLA, Yuri Alemao, and the two district presidents -- Viren Shirodkar (North Goa) and Savio D'Silva (South Goa) -- will take charge of the party organisation at the event.
Local Congress leaders, including Opposition Leader, Michael Lobo, former chief minister and permanent invitee to Congress Working Committee (CWC), Digambar Kamat, South Goa MP, Francisco Sardinha among others are also expected to attend.
The new team headed by Patkar is being billed by the Congress as a re-invention of sorts with Chidambaram terming it as a "generational shift" in the party's Goa unit.
Results of this year’s assembly elections where the party managed to win just 11 seats have been disappointing for the Congress which had made a determined bid for power after a decade of being relegated to the Opposition benches.
Outgoing State Congress president, Girish Chodankar, had quit owning responsibility for the electoral debacle following which Congress president Sonia Gandhi had appointed the new team headed by Patkar.
