GSIDC inspects site for beautification of NH66 in Canacona

GSIDC inspects site for beautification of NH66 in Canacona

CANACONA

A team of officers from Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) on Thursday inspected the NH66 road from Char-Rasta to Mastimoll (near police station) for the proposed beautification along the stretch.

A GSIDC team led by GSIDC Manager Civil-II Sudesh Sangodkar reached Char-Rasta and was received by Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Ramakant Naikagaonkar, before being joined by Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar and others.

While GSIDC officers were tight-lipped and declined to divulge the purpose of their inspection to the media, a BJP leader said the site inspection took place after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had given de-facto approval for development of the highway (NH66) stretch from Char-Rasta to Mastimoll.

The GSIDC team along with the political representatives first examined the availability of space beyond both sides of the highway road near the Power House, the entry of Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (MPCBR), the Char-Rasta junction, the Char Rasta-Devabagh-Palolem-Agonda Junction, the Chaudi Main Market, Canacona Municipal Area, Pansulem Road, Ravindra Bhavan and Bus Stand up to Canacona Police Station.

It is learnt a decorative round-about is being planned either at the MPCBR or Char-Rasta entry-point.

Others present at the joint inspection included CMC Dy Chairperson Narcisco Fernandes, ex-chairperson and Councillor Simon Rebello, Ex-Dy Chairperson and Councillor Amita Pagi, Sara Naik Dessai, Hemantkumar Naikgaunkar, Samba NaikDesai, PWD Ex-AE Engr Subhash Pagi, Ex-Executive Engr (Electricity) Engr. Santosh Lolayekar, BJP Canacona Block president Vishal Dessai, Executive member Sidhesh Dessai, BMC (Shristhal) Chairman Vinay Tubki, Diwaker Bhagat and Ajay Bhagat.

The GSIDC team also went towards Nagorcem and Chaudi to observe the space available at the old Bus Stand, Chaudi, and inspected the NH66 road towards the Police Station at Mastimoll.

It may be recalled that during the inauguration of MPCBR, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had agreed in principle to a demand to develop the entry point with a satellite market, as the highway traffic would not only bypass Chaudi, the commercial hub, but also Char-Rasta, Poinguinim Bazaar and Maxem Bazaar.
