Stating that works to hotmix all roads in Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca villages have been tendered and are awaiting expenditure sanction of the government, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said the works would begin as soon as these files are cleared.
He was addressing a gathering after launching the work to hotmix a road opposite the Holy Family Church at Porvorim, which passes by the Defence colony. Porvorim Parish Priest Fr Caetano Fernandes and ZP member Kavita Naik were present at the event.
“The road is being hotmixed at a cost of around Rs 60 lakh. Since the work to lay the underground electricity cable, water pipeline and sewage work was in progress, the hotmixing of the road was delayed.”
“Another issue was that the contractor had not received payments from the government. The State government was facing a financial crunch and had informed that files to hotmix roads would be cleared after December 31, 2020,” said Khaunte.
The Porvorim MLA said the work to hotmix most roads in Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca villages have been tendered and are awaiting expenditure sanction from the government.
“As soon as these files are cleared, the roads will be hotmixed. I hope the government will clear the files soon without any differences among constituencies,” he said.
He insisted that the State government should first repair and hotmix roads in the State before implementing the new Motor Vehicle Act. “Infrastructure should be in place before enforcing laws,” said Khaunte.
Khaunte claimed that amendments to the Goa Lokayukta Act were merely to make the Lokayukta a toothless tiger.
“What is use of appointing a Lokayukta without powers? The former Lokayukta had passed judgements on several issues but the State government has refrained from taking any action against the culprits and this only indicates that the government is supporting corrupt bureaucrats and politicians,” said Khaunte.
