A 6-month-old baby succumbed to injuries at the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim, following a mishap between a passenger bus and a car at Usgao on Wednesday evening.

According to sources, there was a delay in arranging a 108 ambulance to admit the infant to the GMC hospital and the Piliem Primary Health Centre could arrange the 108 ambulance after only about an hour and a half.

On Wednesday evening, the infant along with six other occupants in a car were injured in an accident which occurred on the main road in front of Nestle company in Usgao. Around 10-12 passengers on the bus also suffered minor injuries.

The accident is alleged to have occurred when the car driver fell asleep. The Chowgule and Ajgaonkar families in the car had gone to Karnataka for Devdarshan.

All the injured persons were shifted to the Piliem Health Centre and the bus passengers were later discharged.

The Ponda police have registered a case against the car driver Shankar Chowgule after conducting a panchanama. The Police Inspector of Ponda Police Station, Tushar Lotlikar is investigating the case.
