PANAJI
The Goa Youth Congress on Friday taunted the Chief Minister over the incomplete state of the Smart City and Sewerage works in Panjim, that are unlikely to be completed before the monsoon.
In a statement, South Goa Youth Congress District President Mahesh Nadar said that the government’s misplaced priorities are the cause of the mess.
On Thursday the Chief Minister launched 20 new electric buses for the state. Instead of the buses, the Chief Minister should have been launching a water taxi service for the people of Panaji who are going to be inundated in the coming monsoon due to which someone could lose their life on account of the incomplete works, open manholes and uncovered drains in the city.
The roads in the city are going to be so bad, that no one will be able to take a bus, or their own vehicles or even walk or cycle out of their homes or to work. Instead the government could perhaps buy kayaks for each Panaji resident to help him navigate in and out of the city.
The People of Panaji are suffering for more than a year and instead of paying heed to their complaints the local MLA has been busy trying to belittle their concerns. The state government too has given very little attention to this historic city of Panaji that is host to many international events -- and instead allowed it to be devoured by those who care little for the city itself and only for their vote banks.
Instead of accepting their faults and failures the ruling BJP in the state is simply deciding to test the patience of the people to find out just home much they are willing to tolerate the mess that they have heaped upon them and seek to quite literally bury them under.
No amount of advertisements and pasting of posters is going to be able to cover up the mess that the city has found itself in. We demand that the government not simply replace one official with another at the eleventh hour, but instead hold those who have brought about this mess in the first place accountable and prosecute them for risking the life of the ordinary citizen.
