Iron ore dump DPR evaluation almost complete, auction soon

The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) on Wednesday said that the evaluation of the detailed project reports (DPRs) submitted by the bidders for the iron ore dump auction is almost completed by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the auction will take place soon.
Earlier this month, DMG postponed the proposed auction of ten low-grade iron ore dumps, estimated to contain around 22 million metric tonnes of ore, scheduled on January 8-9.
“As the scrutiny of DPRs submitted by the bidders is still in process by TERI, it is hereby informed that the ascending forward electronic auction of dumps scheduled on January 8 and 9 stands postponed,” DMG director Narayan Gad had stated.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Gad said that the evaluation of DPRs is almost complete and the auction of dumps will be held soon. “The new dates would be announced shortly,” he said.
As per the prescribed process, each bidder is required to submit a DPR in conformity with the guidelines laid down by TERI. The DPR must detail the excavation plan, safety measures, logistics and transportation arrangements, waste-handling strategy, environmental management plan and dump-closure proposal.
According to the DMG, of the 26 identified iron ore dumps lying on private land without payment of conversion fees by former leaseholders, ten dumps located in Sanguem, Sattari and Dharbandora talukas were shortlisted for e-auction in the first phase.
