SANGUEM
A youth from Kalay-Sanguem has lodged a complaint against a person from Chinchinim for allegedly cheating him to the tune of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of giving him a job on board a ship.
Azhar Farook Shaikh informed that the incident took place a few months ago when he was informed that the accused was providing jobs to youth on board the ship.
After having met the accused, Shaikh paid a sum of Rs 3.5 lakh for the job and also underwent required courses to join the ship.
However even after having completed the courses, the accused kept on delaying the job offer and at one time demanded another Rs 1.5 lakh which Shaikh, despite financial difficulties, paid to the accused by pledging gold ornaments with him.
With no job offer coming forth and sensing something fishy, Shaikh asked the accused to return the money but the accused only kept on assuring to return the money.
Aggrieved with the delaying tactics, Shaikh finally lodged a complaint at the Curchorem police station against the accused. Curchorem police are investigating the matter.
