The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded that knowledge of Konkani be made mandatory for the casual posts of 'Sagar Mitra' advertised by the Fisheries Department.A delegation of the GFP met officials of the Fisheries department on Thursday and submitted a memorandum voicing the demand in which they argue that it is not specified in the advertisement which could make anyone from neighbouring States eligible as well.
Fisheries Departments of other States have explicitly mentioned the name of their local language for the mentioned posts, the GFP said.
The 'Sagar Mitra' positions in question were advertised by the Fisheries department and are part of the Central government's scheme to develop local fisheries. They entail an incentive of Rs 10,000 per month and an additional Rs 5000 for specific tasks achieved.
GFP said that for the Sagar Mitra posts in Goa, the eligibility criteria give scope for candidates from other States to be selected.
"The intention of the Government is to get people from other states. If not, the recruitment rules in the advertisement may be corrected by specifying Konkani is the local language besides 15-year domicile in Goa as a mandatory requirement,” it added.
