Labourer dies in horrific accident at Vasco railway construction site

VASCO

A tragic accident at a railway construction site near Shantinagar, Vasco, claimed the life of a 19-year-old labourer on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Lalsun Ali, lost his life in a horrific mishap involving an Ajax mixer truck.

According to Vasco police, the incident occurred behind Kabrastan, where concrete mixing work was in progress. Construction materials, including metal stones, sand, and cement, were dumped at the site, and an Ajax mixer truck was being used for mixing.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the mixer truck's bucket was damaging cement bags kept near the metal stone heap. In an attempt to move the cement bags aside, Ali reportedly slipped on the heap and accidentally came under the bucket. The sharp edge of the bucket caused a fatal injury, decapitating him on the spot.

Police officials arrived promptly at the scene and conducted a spot inspection. A scene of unnatural death (UD) occurrence panchanama was drawn, followed by an inquest panchanama. The deceased’s body was sent for post-mortem examination at SGDH Margao, where the police surgeon confirmed the cause of death as "exsanguination and traumatic transection of the cervical spinal cord due to decapitation."

Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for the final rites. Vasco police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The further enquiry is being conducted by PSI Prisly Carvalho under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
