Lineman dies after being electrocuted on duty in Siolim

MAPUSA

A 42-year-old lineman from Mandrem died after coming in contact with electricity and falling off an electricity pole, after he had gone to attend to a fault as part of efforts to restore power supply at Portowada-Siolim on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, power supply was disrupted at Portowada, and the lineman, Krishna Pawar, had gone to the site with co-workers from the electricity department at about 4.30 pm.

Pawar climbed the pole with the help of a ladder, and was getting down, when he came in contact with a live wire.

He fell off the pole and was seriously injured. He was rushed to the Mapusa district hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. Anjuna PSI Sahil Warang did the panchanama after being informed of the accidental death. The body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.

On receiving news, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar visited the hospital along with Pawar’s family and criticised the junior engineers present in the hospital. He alleged that Pawar lost his life due to negligence of electricity officials.

Arolkar and the family members have demanded a detailed inquiry into the incident.

Congress leader Amarnath Panajikar demanded that Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar accept moral responsibility for the death of Pawar.
