Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has voiced concerns regarding recent developments along NH 66. During a site inspection alongside Penha De Franca Panchayat and government officials, MLA Khaunte alleged the NH 66 digging began without prior notice, emphasising the need for contractors to involve local authorities before any work commences. He highlighted the importance of preserving existing infrastructure, particularly the service roads crucial for public access.
Pointing out the necessity to adhere strictly to approved plans, MLA Khaunte expressed reservations about potential disruptions to local amenities. "We cannot permit new constructions that compromise our established infrastructure," he asserted during the inspection. "No other service road exists here, so it cannot be disturbed. This is not merely a road; it serves a critical function for the local infrastructure," he added.
Additionally, Khaunte pointed out specific discrepancies such as drainage systems conflicting with established road layouts. He also addressed escalating traffic management challenges arising from construction, noting a significant increase in traffic volume. "Traffic has surged from 10,000 to 50,000 vehicles per hour," he stated, advocating for effective measures to mitigate these impacts.
The MLA emphasised the necessity for effective coordination with local stakeholders, including the panchayat and traffic police, to ensure comprehensive planning and minimal disruption to daily life.
