Ponda police arrested the truck driver following a tragic hit-and-run incident in Usgao, which claimed the life of a pedestrian identified as Anand Dharma Naik (57) from Usgao. Due to the severity of the accident, the victim was severely mutilated as the vehicle ran over him.
Compounding the tragedy, the victim's head was found a kilometre away near MRF Company, likely due to it becoming lodged under the vehicle's wheel during the incident.
Upon receiving information, the police responded to the scene and initiated their investigation. Residents took action by blocking the check post at Mollem after learning that the vehicle involved had passed through their village.
Incidentally, earlier this morning in the same vicinity, a two-wheeler collided with a pick-up truck on the national highway near MRF Company, resulting in serious injuries to two youths.
