Locals oppose MRF in residential area at Curtorim gram sabha

MARGAO

The issue of setting up of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) came up for discussion at the gram sabha meeting of Curtorim village panchayat on Sunday.

At the meeting chaired by Caetan Hilario on Sunday, residents of the locality attended the gram sabha to express their opposition to the MRF facility. They pointed out that the site in question is located in a residential area, demanding that the panchayat should look for a suitable place to set up the MRF facility.

Sarpanch Hilario later told the media that the three sites earlier proposed by the panchayat body had met with opposition. “This site was selected for the MRF facility. Even the tendering process has been set in motion,” Hilario said, adding that the panchayat would discuss with the higher authorities how to go about the matter.

Gram sabha members demanded that since the government has notified the Sao Jose de Areal-Chandor as a major district road, the major district road passing through Curtorim market should be notified as a village road.

He also raised points during discussions on the budget estimates which were placed before the gram sabha for approval.
