Long-abandoned Cacora project raises accountability questions Once planned as a central garage hub, the Cacora facility now stands neglected and deteriorating.

The long-abandoned Cacora garage project at the Cacora Industrial Estate has once again come under public scrutiny, with locals alleging that vast amounts of public money have been wasted on infrastructure that has remained unused for about 6 years.
The project had been envisaged to shift all the garages functioning in and around Shivaji Circle at Curchorem to one central place. The Shivaji Circle area has the most number of garages in the town, which functioned busily during the mining boom.
The structure today presents a grim and neglected appearance.
Over the years, the site has fallen into complete disrepair, with thick vegetation covering the premises, doors and windows either broken or hanging loose, and the overall structure showing visible signs of deterioration. The eerie and deserted setting has drawn comparisons to a “haunted” site.
Residents have expressed strong resentment over what they describe as blatant misuse of taxpayer money. Questions are being raised as to how such a significant public project was allowed to remain idle for so long without accountability.
Allegations have also surfaced suggesting that projects of this nature are sometimes initiated with vested interests, only to be abandoned midway after funds are exhausted.
The prolonged neglect has sparked growing public anger, with citizens demanding immediate intervention from authorities.
Locals have urged the government to either revive the project and put the existing infrastructure to productive use or provide a clear explanation for its abandonment.
With no visible progress for about six years, the Cacora Garage project stands as a stark reminder of administrative apathy and the urgent need for transparency and accountability in the execution of public works.
