Against the backdrop of allegations surrounding the missing footage from the Ponda police station on where Kanyakumar Mondol was taken before his death, it is now revealed that Maina Curtorim police will seek technical experts to retrieve the footage.
“There’s an error because of the moisture. The investigation team will seek assistance from the InfoTech Corporation of Goa to retrieve the footage,” sources told The Goan.
The Bihar labourer’s death, initially registered as a 'hit and run' was later registered as murder after forensic doctors confirmed he was already dead before allegedly being run over by a truck.
Three policemen from the Ponda police station head constable Ravindra Naik and constables Ashwin Sawant and Pritesh Prabhu have been suspended and their role is also under scrutiny.
Sources revealed that these policemen had brought Mondol to the station -- prior to the fatal mishap -- after complaints from locals of creating a nuisance. He was subsequently dropped outside the Maina Curtorim jurisdiction after which Mondol was found dead on the roadside in Loutolim on June 25-26.
Sources said the footage might provide crucial information about his condition when he was brought to the police station. One arrest of a truck driver from the neighbouring State was made on Thursday.
