Man held for possessing narcotics in Calangute

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Calangute Police arrested a 24-year-old man for the illegal possession of 950 grams of ganja worth approximately Rs 95,000.  

The raid was conducted on Wednesday near the HP gas godown at Naikwaddo, Calangute. The accused, identified as Sachin Rathod, a resident of Gaura Waddo, Calangute, originally hails from Bijapur, Karnataka. Acting on credible information about a drug delivery, a police team led by PSI Yogesh Mandrekar and supported by personnel Raj Parab, Ravindra Gaonkar, Siddhant Lamgaonkar, Rohan Naik, and Rama Gaonkar, conducted the operation.  

During the raid, the team seized the narcotic substance from Rathod’s possession.  

Following this, an offence was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.  

The investigation is being conducted under the guidance of PI Paresh Naik of Calangute Police Station, with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal (IPS).  

Further inquiries are underway to identify any links to larger networks or accomplices.
