MAPUSA
In view of a sudden surge in Covid cases across the State, the St Jerome Church at Mapusa has cancelled all masses for public on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Miracles on April 19 (Monday).
Mapusa Parish Priest Fr Deniz Fernandes informed that the decision was taken taking into consideration of the current Covid situation and the restrictions imposed by the government.
“With the rise in Covid cases and in view of the latest restrictions imposed by the government authorities, the public Feast Day masses of Our Lady of Milagres stands cancelled,” Fr Fernandes said.
However, the solemn Feast Mass will be held only for the Parish Council members and will be telecast on YouTube.
The nine-day novena preceding the feast was held in the church by strictly observing the SOPs enforced by authorities.
It may be recalled public celebration of the annual Mapusa feast was also cancelled due to pandemic forced lockdown last year.
The feast is celebrated every year with great pomp and gaiety at the St Jerome’s Church, Mapusa.
A popular event in Mapusa, the feast attracts thousands of devotees from all over Goa.
