Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza convened a review meeting with various government departments on the pre-monsoon works that has to be carried out in town.
D’Souza has instructed officials to complete all works before the arrival of the monsoon to avoid any untoward incident during the rains.
“For the last two years, Mapusa has not witnessed any flood-like situation. We have to ensure that all monsoon-related works are completed much before the deadline,” D’Souza said.
The electricity department has identified 57 trees for trimming at various places in town. Besides, 41 trees including coconut trees have been identified as dangerous and will be cut by the PWD.
Necessary approvals for cutting of trees have been obtained from the forest department in some cases while others were being processed.
Similarly, the water resources department (WRD) has clubbed desilting of various nullahs in seven different works, six of which have been approved.
The MLA has instructed the officials to take ward councillors into confidence while cutting the trees and fixing issues concerning the electricity department.
A similar review meeting has been called once again on May 1 and May 10.
“Earlier, all departments were working independently throwing the entire pre-monsoon works schedule haywire. This time, we ensured all departments come together and discuss issues with one another during such meetings. There is synergy of ideas and the works get accomplished faster,” the MLA said.
Besides, electricity and WRD, officials of deputy collector, highway, PWD and health were also present for the meeting.
Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, Shubanghi Vaigankar and some ruling councilors were also present for the meeting.
