A dowry case has been registered with Mapusa police against the mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister “in law in respect of the suicide of Deepali Dipesh Shetkar, aged 31, a married woman, which took place in 2014 at Karaswada, Mapusa.
As per the request made in the petition filed by the father of deceased Deepali Shetkar the High Court had directed Mapusa police to register the case. Accordingly, Deputy Collector Kabir Shirgaonkar filed a complaint with the police, and the police registered a case against the deceased's father-in-law Jaganath Shetkar, mother-in-law Anuradha Shetkar and Sister “in “law Samiksha Shetkar under section 304(b) and 34 of the BNS.
The victim committed suicide on May 12, 2014 by hanging herself in the house of father-in-law. The deceased Deepali took this drastic step after six months of marriage.
Suspecting foul play in the death of his daughter, the deceased's father had lodged a complaint with the police. But as the police did not register his case, he approached the Mapusa court. The Mapusa court also rejected his application. Thereafter he appealed to the Bombay High Court.
Meanwhile the main accused Jaganath Shetkar has expired and second accused his wife Anuradha is in bed due to illness. The sister-in-law Samiksha has got married. The husband of the deceased Deepali is unable to speak . Police is investigating the case.
