MARGAO
The Margao fire brigade received more than 80 emergency calls, including 39 major calls on Sunday as uprooted trees either landed on houses or on roads, throwing normal life out of gear.
Divisional Fire Officer, Nitin Raikar was at Comba when a huge tree came crashing down on a residential house. No one, however, was injured in the incident.
The fire brigade pointed out that as many as 80 calls were received by the Margao division since Sunday morning. Around half-a-dozen fire and rescue teams, constituted by the fire services were on the job to clear the trees from the roads and houses.
That the firemen were tied down by the number of calls was evident by the fact that at some places they could not reach the spot for hours together after receiving the calls.
A fire men pointed out that barring a couple of trees that came crashing on houses, most of the trees landed on the roads, disrupting traffic. “We had accorded priority for the removal of the trees from the roads. We also attended to trees which had come crashing on the houses,” informed a firemen.
