MARGAO
With cyclone Tauktae disrupting power supply across the State, the ESI hospital, Margao had to fall back on the back-up generators to ensure normal functioning of the services.
Two 1000 KVA generators, which were kept standby came in hand for ESI hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Vishwajit Faldesai after the hospital witnessed power outage at around 11 am on Sunday. “Immediately, we decided to switch on the 1000 KVA generator to ensure that the services run without any problem. We had stocked enough diesel as a matter of abundant caution,” he said.
Dr Faldesai informed that the generator helped to keep the service unaffected for close to five hours. He said the hospital also received the daily quota of oxygen cylinders from Cuncolim without any problem.
A senior power official pointed out that though Margao area, which is covered under the underground cabling system, was not affected by uprooted trees, the incoming supply on the 33KVA feeder from Xeldem gave some problems on Sunday during the cyclone.
The South Goa district hospital also functioned normally since the hospital received the dedicated power from the Verna feeder.
