Belagavi
Fearing the rising cases in Goa on one side and Belagavi on the other, residents of Jamboti have decided to go for a seven-day self-imposed lockdown from Monday.
The decision was taken at a panchayat meeting that was held on Saturday. Gram Panchayat President Mahesh Gurav presided over the meeting that was attended by a majority of villagers.
No vehicles or travellers from Goa and other places will be allowed to enter Jamboti for the next seven days except for emergencies and e-pass holders.
“Located between Belagavi, Goa and Khanapur, Jamboti is frequented by vehicles and travellers from all the sides. This is also the main market places for about 25 villages in the vicinity due to which many villagers visit Jamboti as the shops are kept open from 6 to 10 am as per the government order."
"However, apart from Belagavi and Khanapur talukas, there is a huge rise in Covid positive cases in Goa. Hence as a precaution, we have initiated the lockdown,” Gurav told reporters.
All the shops and other public places will remain closed throughout the day from May 17 to May 24, Gurav said adding that except for medical shops and other emergencies the villagers have decided to keep all the other transactions and activities closed.
Villagers will be also maintaining a close vigil on those entering Jamboti from Goa and Belagavi side during the seven-day lockdown.
