The five accused in the murder of local activist Vilas Methar were remanded to 8 days police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Sunday.
Porvorim police had presented all the five accused - Altaf Yargatti (37), Khayyad Sheikh (35), Pawan Badigeri (30), Prashant Dhabholkar (36) and Ikbal Nanpuri (31) before the Judicial Magistrate First Class for remand.
It may be recalled that Vilas Methar was waylaid and set ablaze on the afternoon of October 14, at Torda, Porvorim. Methar succumbed to the burn injuries at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim a day later.
Initially on receipt of the complaint from the family members of the deceased social activist Vilas Methar, Porvorim Police had detained the builders Altaf Yargatti and Khayyad Sheikh. Pawan Badgeri and Prashant Dabholkar who had fled to Sindhudurg were brought to Goa on Saturday afternoon after their arrest at Kankavli. The fifth accused Ikbal Nanpuri was arrested from Mapusa by the police on Saturday itself.
All the five accused are presently in the custody of Porvorim police station. On Sunday afternoon, they were taken to the sight at Torda for further investigation.
Porvorim police said that since the investigations are on and in the initial stage, they are unable to disclose any further details.
