MGNREGA: State increases wages for unskilled workers

Goa notified the maximum hike of 10.56 per cent over the current wage rate for unskilled manual workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), for the current financial year, in the entire country.

In a notification issued, the wage rate in Goa has been increased from Rs 322 per day to Rs 356 per day for the job seekers for unskilled manual work. Last year, the rates were hiked from Rs 315 to Rs 322 per day.

The rates will be implemented with retrospective effect from April 1 onwards.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 6 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005, the Central Government has enhanced the wage rate from Rs 322 to Rs 356 per day to the job seekers for unskilled manual work for the State of Goa vide Notification dated 27th March, 2024,” the notification stated.

“In view of the above enhancement of wages under MGNREGA for the State of Goa, the wage rate of Rs 322 to be read as 356 per day for jobseekers for unskilled manual work  with effect from April 1, 2024,” it said further.
