In a thrilling encounter at the Panchayat Ground, Guardian Angel SC triumphed 2-1 over Navelim Villagers Union, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the 7th Martin's Cup, organised by Betalbatim Sports Club.
Both teams created several chances in the first half, with Navelim Villagers Union striking first. Prestly Gomes gave them a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, which they held onto until halftime.
In the second half, Guardian Angel SC increased the pressure, and their efforts paid off in the 40th minute when Regan Costa equalized with a powerful shot. The match seemed destined to go beyond regulation time, but in the dying minutes, Milroy Clement scored the decisive goal from a corner kick. Clement rose above the defence and headed the ball past goalkeeper Jit Gupta, sending the crowd into a frenzy as it landed in the net.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Milroy Clement by Fr Aagapito D'Cunha, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Remedios Church, for his game-winning header and overall stellar performance.
