PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Wednesday chose to steer clear of the storm raging over the South Goa double tracking project, insisting he would not be drawn into controversy so early in his new role.
“I have just taken charge of the Public Works Department. Don’t try to do any politics, this is my sincere request to you. I will not issue any statement on controversial issues,” Kamat told journalists when pressed for his stand on the project, which has triggered widespread protests in Salcete.
While his comments may frustrate opponents of the project who expected clarity from the new PWD head, Kamat appears keen on buying time and avoiding political minefields “ at least for now.
