The feud between Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and his fellow legislator, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, erupted yet again when Godinho claimed that Saldanha had done virtually nothing in her constituency but was taking credit for the work done by others.
Addressing a gathering in Sancoale on Tuesday, Godinho said Saldanha was totally incapable and had not carried out development works.
“Recently, Saldanha had said I did development works in Dabolim constituency but did nothing for Cortalim constituency as a MLA. The plot for the Sancoale panchayat Ghar was offered free of cost while I was the Cortalim MLA. The Kala Bhavan which was 80 per cent complete during my tenure was deliberately stopped by Saldanha.”
Today, Saldanha has not restarted the project since the last many years and she is incapable," said Godinho.
"Saldanha is taking credit for the Cortalim Market by claiming it was Matanhy Saldanha’s dream but the fact is that Matanhy Saldanha was neither MLA nor ZP, when the Cortalim market project was conceived by me as Cortalim MLA because people were selling fish by the roadsides.”
Godinho said Saldanha had even requested to delay the Cortalim market project by two years and got the same plan approved after minor changes.
Godinho claimed that fields got submerged in Cansaulim because of the Konkan Railway and no one had been getting compensation.
“The new Velsao Panchayat Ghar and market complex was built by me and the Cansaulim Panchayat Ghar was built by me on my own grandfather’s land,” said Godinho.
Claiming that the Cansaulim football ground had become a white elephant, Godinho said he had got the entire ground changed to international standards.
