MARGAO
Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday categorically said the government should implement the assurances given on the floor of the House to make the South Goa district hospital functional.
Kamat further said he had planned the district hospital during his stint as Chief Minister to ensure that people of South Goa receive maximum treatment and only patients in need of specialized treatment are referred to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim.
“Right now there is no ICU facility at the district hospital. That is the biggest problem facing the hospital. Accident patients are referred to GMC since there is no ICU and neurologist”, he said.
Saying the government had assured on the floor of the House to make the district hospital functional, Kamat said he would write to the Assurances Committee to take the assurances to the logical conclusion.
When his attention was drawn to Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai’s plan to knock the doors of the High Court on the district hospital, Kamat said, “He is free to go to the High Court. I will write to the government to provide all medical facilities at the district hospital”.
