MPA’s 18.98% rise in cargo is highest among major ports

The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) has registered an increase of 18.98% during the financial year 2023-2024, which is highest as compared to other major ports.

In a press note, the MPA stated that the Port handled a total traffic of 20.62 M/T during this year as compared 17.33 M/T handled during last year. The port registered an increase of 18.98% which is highest as compared to other major ports.

The port also achieved the highest Output per Ship Berth day of 17702 tonnes, while the port handled highest coastal cargo of 3.89 M/T this year as compared to 1.73 M/T handled last year registering an increase of 125%.

Regarding the Port’s Railway Performance, the MPA stated that it handled 2,871 rakes loaded from port in 2023-24, which is the highest loading in last 7 years.

Besides, 924 rakes were unloaded at port in 2023-24 which is the highest ever rakes unloaded at MPT. On March 31, 2024, the port also achieved highest single day outward loading of 14 rakes which is highest in last 7 years.

Iron ore exports are the main commodity contributing to the increase in cargo throughput.
