Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Vasco Sports Club 4-1 in the GFA Professional League, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Monday.
Both the teams were locked on 1-1 at half-time.
The game kicked off with a bang as Sporting Clube de Goa wasted no time making an impact. In the 19th minute, midfielder Ivon Costa showcased his goal-scoring prowess by breaking the deadlock with a clinical finish. However, their joy was short-lived when Ningthoujam Singh cancelled the lead for Vasco SC off a cross from Velito Rocha in the 29th minute.
Unfazed, the Flaming Oranje asserted their dominance by controlling possession and dictating the flow of the game and continued to press forward but their forwards wasted the chances from close range.
In the second half, Sporting picked up from where they left off and their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Vidipt Dua’s precise shot crashed into the net. In the 80th minute Jonas Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper.
Two minutes later, hard-working Lloyd finished with a deft placement for the fourth.
Sporting now have 37 points from 20 games and have a game in hand. Sesa FA are leading the table with 39 points from 21 games.
