NCP State President and former minister Jose Philip D'Souza on Friday said the panel of party-backed candidates contesting the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) elections would be declared by Monday.
D'Souza was speaking to reporters alongside the inauguration of the poll office of social worker Amindin Mullal in Ward 12.
He said most NCP-backed candidates had opened their election offices in different locations and were ready to fight the upcoming elections.
“The party-backed candidates were placed only in wards where there is a winnability factor and there is no point having candidates in all wards.”
“We will get the final list on Saturday after withdrawals are over and we will declare our party-backed panel of candidates by Monday. We are confident of having a significant share of party-backed councillors in the MMC,” said D'Souza.
D'Souza said the NCP was backing Mullal as he had earned widespread appreciation of people in the ward.
"Mullal has been doing a lot of work for people across different wards despite not being a councillor. We need such social workers to come forward for municipal elections and we seek the support of the people to get him elected with a huge margin," said D'Souza.
