The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday said the work on the new interim bus-stand in Mapusa was not carried out as per the specifications putting question mark on its quality and blamed the Mapusa civic body for failing to keep a tab on the ongoing work at the site.
“The work undertaken at the new bus-stand is not as per requirements. The stone soling of the floor has to be 30 cm in thickness but as per the work undertaken on the site the soling is only 15 cm. It will not be able to take the weight of heavy vehicles entering the bus-stand,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP while addressing a news conference in Mapusa.
Barde also said that the decision to use pavers on the floor of the bus-stand was an ill-conceived idea as it would not be able to take the weight of heavy traffic.
He said the uneven pavers installed at the Mapusa taxi-stand or outside the Mapusa Municipal Council building bears testimony to the haphazard job done with the pavers.
“At most places the pavers have come out from its grip and are a threat to people walking on them,” he said.
He further said that instead of using pavers it would be better if the entire area was concretized.
The NCP general secretary said the engineers of the Mapusa Municipal Council should supervise the work at the new bus-stand.
“We have a technical section in the MMC. The engineers should supervise the work and give suggestions to the agency doing the job of the bus-stand,” he said.
Barde also slammed the deteriorating condition of the roads in the monsoon.
He said most of the roads get worn out because the civic body failed to build proper drains for rain water to drain out.
He also demanded a full-time chief officer for the Mapusa Municipal Council.
