The issue of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) proposed at Fatramoll at Chandor took the centre stage at the gram sabha of the Chandor village panchayat on Sunday.
The issue over the two open spaces that were gifted to the panchayat decades ago also generated much heat at the gram sabha with members demanding to know the status of the plots.
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Estefan Dias, the MRF issue took the centre stage after the local residents inhabiting Fatramoll came to question the rationale behind setting up the MRF facility in a residential area. They pointed out that the MRF will pose nuisance and create health hazard to the people of the locality.
After the meeting, the Sarpanch told the media that the residents were explained that the High Court is monitoring the setting up of the MRF facilities at the village panchayats.
He told the media that the residents are free to go to the high Court and file their submissions in the matter, saying that the Panchayat proposal to set up the MRF facility has gone to the office of Director of Panchayats for approval.
On the issue of the two open spaces gifted to the Panchayat body decades ago, the Sarpanch informed the members that the Panchayat had already lodged a police complaint as per the resolution adopted at a previous gram sabha. When the gram sabha members questioned the Sapranch what action has the police taken in the mater, Dias pointed out that the panchayat has been doing the follow up with the police.
