After a gap of 13 years, the Nerul-Betim road will get another coat of hotmix much to the relief of locals and tourists alike.
Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar launched the work to hotmix the Nerul-Betim road in the presence of Nerul Sarpanch Reshma Kalangutkar, Dy Sarpanch Avinash Shirodkar and panch members of Nerul, Reis Magos, Guirim, Sangolda and Pilerne panchayats.
In his address, Salgaonkar said the condition of Nerul-Betim road had deteriorated over the years.
“There were several potholes on the road and I would receive frequent complaints from motorists, especially taxi owners. This road leads towards the popular Candolim and Calangute coast and hence, there was constant demand to repair the road.”
“This road was last hotmixed in 2007 and after 13 years, this road is being hotmixed for a second time,” said Salgaonkar.
Commenting on the proposed Circuit Road, Salgaonkar said former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar, while on a visit to Nerul, had assured to hotmix the Circuit Road from Betim to Candolim and from Calangute to Porvorim at a cost of Rs 135 crore.
“Work on the Circuit Road was entrusted to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation. However after his demise, the State government led by Pramod Sawant scrapped this Circuit Road project.”
“Hence, I had to move the file again for this road, which consumed a lot of time and effort. The PWD cleared the file after sensing the need and urgency of the work,” said Salgaonkar.
The Saligao MLA said hotmixing of roads leading towards the garbage treatment plant would be taken up soon.
Nerul Sarpanch Reshma Calangutkar and Dy Sarpanch Avinash Shirodkar also spoke on the occasion.
