Santa Cruz Sarpanch Namdev Naik said the panchayat would henceforth not renew any licences granted to conduct business in fields all along the stretch of the Four Pillars road.
Naik made the statement while speaking to the media after the inspection of an alleged illegal toilet in a field at Santa Cruz. “The panchayat is in receipt of an order from the Collector which has directed the panchayat not to renew any licences for business activity all along the Four Pillars road at Santa Cruz and henceforth, we will not renew the licences,” Naik added.
Meanwhile, activist Arturo D’Souza informed that he had filed a complaint with authorities concerned requesting them to stop the illegal activities all along the stretch of the Four Pillars road.
“I complained to the agriculture department and BDO. But the BDO is asking me to cite survey numbers and name of owners, only then they can serve notices. However, I am not aware of any survey number or the owners, which is the reason why the issue is stuck,” D’Souza said.
“Cement products cannot be manufactured here because it involves chemicals, which affects the fields. Then, there are nurseries also. But under the Indian Pest Act 1914, one cannot bring plants from one state to another because pests and diseases are also brought along due to which agriculture suffers,” D’Souza said.
He has requested the government to remove all illegal activities, which he said, has been growing by the passing day.
