VASCO
Anurag Singh Rajawat, who was arrested by Vasco police on January 5 in the New Vaddem gas explosion case, has been granted another 6 days police custody on Friday.
Sources said Rajawat had moved an application for bail after the previous remand of 6 days of police custody was ending, but Vasco police on Friday sought more time to carry out investigations in the case and a court remanded Rajawat to six more days in police custody.
It may be recalled that Rajawat’s wife, Shivani (26), who was four months pregnant, and her mother Jaidevi Chauhan (50) had died in an explosion in a flat at New Vaddem reported on November 18, 2023.
While Vasco police had initially registered a case of unnatural death case, the matter was also being investigated by the Sub District Magistrate since the death of the wife was within seven years of marriage.
Dy Collector Bhagwant Karmali later submitted his report to Vasco Police directing them to investigate on the basis of circumstantial evidence and register a FIR if required.
The Vasco police then registered a case under Section 304 B under dowry death against Anurag Singh Rajawat, and later added Section 302 read with 34 IPC in the crime. Police also included the mother of accused Anurag Singh Rajawat in the crime under Section 304 B IPC.
