Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday dismissed the notion that a snap poll is being contemplated to take advantage of an opposition which is demoralised and in disarray.
Sawant ruled out a snap poll and said his government will complete its term which extends till early March of 2022.
"Government is stable and we will have a full term," Sawant said while addressing his customary post-cabinet briefing.
Sawant also indicated that the next 13-14 months will be 'poll mode' for the government with recruitment drives and implementation of development works.
"Many developmental works will be completed. Many people will be recruited,” Sawant said, adding that in families of freedom fighters where no member is employed in government service will be given jobs by March 31 this year.
The notion was gaining ground in political circles that the ruling BJP is gearing its electoral apparatus for early polls to catch the Opposition, currently in disarray, off guard.
The principal Opposition party -- Congress -- is in a self-admitted correction mode after a series of setbacks including a debacle in the recent Zilla Panchayat elections.
Other political parties, including Goa Forward Party (GFP) of Vijai Sardesai and the Dhavlikar brothers-led Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) too are hardly battle-ready and are publicly posturing to stitch alliances and forge opposition unity.
The new kid in Goa's political landscape, the resurgent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) although making concerted efforts to make a mark is also miles away from being election battle ready.
Given the scenario in the Opposition camp and Sawant's statement to the contrary notwithstanding, speculation on the polls being preponed before it's March '22 due date is bound to prolong.
